Routine filtering with medium flow and retention rates. Commonly used for clarifying liquids. This grade is also used for qualitative analytical separations for precipitates like lead sulphate, calcium oxalate and calcium carbonate.
In agriculture it is used for soil analysis and seed testing procedures. In food and drink to separate solid foodstuffs from liquid, and is widely used in education for teaching analytical separation techniques.
Whatman No 1 is also available as folded circles known as Whatman 1V. It is available in the following sizes:
12.5, 15, 18.5, 24, 27 and 32 cm pre-pleated for use in conical filter funnels
