Moisture Balances

Which moisture balances are glass free for food manufacturing sites?

Moisture balances offer a fast way to analyse the moisture content of food samples, and are ideal for quality control checks during production or before final product release.

However some of the balances contain glass parts, which presents a hazard in food manufacturing areas.

We’ve found two moisture balances that do not contain any glass, making them suitable for food production areas.

Many foods can be tested by moisture balances, but the balance must be glass free to adhere to HACCP rules in food production areas

The Ohaus MB23

This balance has glass free construction – heating is by a metallic sheathed infrared element.

The balance has a 110g capacity and 0.01g readability, and has basic weighing, % moisture and % solid modes. It also has a backlit LCD display and easy-clean ABS housing.

The Adam PMB range

The PMB range offer greater flexibility, with 3 models to choose from, but must have one glass piece removed before it is introduced to the food production area.

The halogen heating element has a glass cover over it, which is easily removed by undoing the 3x small screws securing it. Once this is done, the balances are suitable for use in food production environments.

There is a greater choice in specification with 3 sizes available;
