Shake it up! Camlab Choice Shakers Range Overview
The Camlab Choice range has a selection of different bench top shakers and rockers.  Below we describe the difference between shakers and rockers and the key features of each type.

Shakers

A shaker contains a platform that moves only in the horizontal plane (parallel to the bench) - be that back and forth as seen in linear shakers or in a circular motion as seen in orbital shakers. Shakers are often used at medium to high speeds and are capable of aggressive shaking. They are used in a large variety of applications, although some of the common uses include cell culture, suspension and general reagent mixing/shaking. Using a flask holder platform with your shaker will mimic hand shaking.

  • The SK-O180 has an orbital diameter of 4mm with speed range of 100-800rpm.
  • The SK-O330 has an orbital diameter of 10mm and speed range of 100-500rpm.
  • Supplied with a basic platform. Flask holder attachments are available separately.

Rockers

Rockers differ to shakers in that their plane of movement in not just horizontally and the moving platform has a vertical tilt to it from a centre point. Movement can be in a see-saw motion (2D) or a 3D motion. This different type of movement means that rockers provide a much more gentle motion. Therefore they are chosen for more delicate procedures such as staining, gel de-staining and Western blot.
