Omni International is a leading global manufacturer of laboratory homogenizers that sets the standard with highly reliable, well designed instruments for use in a wide range of applications.
The mechanical hommogenizers from Omni are designed to process samples quickly and efficiently without compromising the sample. Faster homogenization times mean less chance of heat degradation to the sample. These homogenizer motors are available in hand held or stand mounted configurations with high speeds of up to 75,000 rpm.
Generator probes must be selected for use with an Omni homogenizer. There are some key factors to consider when deciding which type of generator probe is best for a particular application:
- What volume range will you be working with? Omni offers probes capable of processing volumes from 250ul – 50L
- What sample size will you begin with and what is your desired particle size result? Window size selection allows additional control over final particle size
- Is cross contamination between samples a concern? Try one of the Omni disposable probes.
See the below video on how to select either a stainless steel, hybrid or full disposable generator probe.
Should I choose a saw tooth or flat bottom generator probe? Saw tooth generator probes perform better with tissue samples an other fibrous material. Flat bottom generators are useful for gentler applications, such as creating emulsions, basic mixing, or liquid-liquid processing.
What length should I choose for my generator probe? Your generator probe should be long enough to almost reach the bottom of your processing vessel while keeping the upper aeration hole above your sample level. Processing efficiency is affected by the distance of your generator probe from your vessel’s bottom, the vessels size and geometry as well as by the sample itself. It may be beneficial to experiment with a variety of distances between the generator probe and vessel bottom. A location of 1/3 of the distance from the bottom to the liquid is a good starting point.
