How do you heat in a vacuum oven?

In a vacuum oven there is less air present to conduct the heat, so how do vacuum ovens ensure suitable heating of the samples?

The Memmert VO series of vacuum ovens use a direct contact principle; each “thermoshelf” is heated so that all samples on that shelf receive heat by direct contact.

The “thermoshelf” in Memmert’s vacuum ovens provides direct heating to the sample

The direct heating is vulcanised onto the undersurface of the “thermoshelf” and protected by an aluminium cover sheet – this gives excellent heat transfer, fast heat-up time and precise control.

Each thermoshelf also has a PT100 temperature sensor fitted, so it is in close proximity to the chamber load. The plug fitting also allows the shelf to be easily removed, for cleaning or for plugging in at different levels.
