Cytiva and TerraCycle

Cytiva have collaborated with TerraCycle to recycle filtration devices to help reduce how much ends up in landfills. TerraCycle was started in 2001 to help eliminate waste by making worm poop plant food from leftover food waste, and then was packaged in waste such as used soda bottles. Since 2001 TerraCycle has prevented over 8 billion pieces of waste ending up in landfills.

Recycling Goal for 2022

Cytiva hope to recycle 500,000 syringe filters in 2022 with TerraCycles help, as 700,000lbs/350tons of syringe filters end up in landfills. This is equivalent to the weight of 25 school buses!

To help with your environmental impact, Cytiva will cover the cost of this program on your behalf.

You can sign up here on their website to receive a ZeroWaste recycling box for your lab. Simply fill the box with your used filtration devices and ship it to the nearest local TerraCycle Material Recovery Facility. These boxes can hold approximately 10,000 syringe filters.

Once collected from your lab, the filters will be recycled into materials suitable for use in industrial applications, such as composite decking, shipping pellets, and compression moulding products. This plan is not ideal for any labs that are generating biological or hazardous waste.
