A dipslide is a means of testing the microbial content of liquids. This is a common method of monitoring and measuring microbial activity within many systems and commonly cooling systems. Usually the use of a dipslide is the first line of defence for the testing of microbial issues that could be caused to manufacturers and machine shop fluid systems.
Dipslides consist of a plastic barrier which bears a sterile culture medium which can be dipped into the liquid being sampled. The resulting microbial colonies are estimated by reference to a chart.
Dipslides are usually incubated for 48 hours after use and any subsequent bacteria in the sample water will grow and form colonies.
Working with pressure/vacuum conditions in the lab is common but not all products are designed to withstand this. Products with appropriate geometry and wall thickness are suitable for working safely with pressure. For example, filtering flasks, desiccators, or flat flange vessels, as well as products like the DURAN® pressure plus+ range of bottles. These provide guaranteed vacuum and pressure...

Do you have a Hach DR900? Have you lost the ability to view and access it's stored programs?
There is a potential for the Hach DR 900 to lose the ability to view and access its stored programmes. This is a result of the internal data log overwriting the stored programme file. This will most likely occur on instruments that have performed in excess of 1,700 tests. In addition, th...
Camlab Blue Nitrile Powder Free Gloves When it comes to PPE, how certain are you that yours or your colleagues hands are protected against chemical, biological or other hazards? How do you know which gloves are likely to provide more protection than others? When it comes to selecting gloves, a simple place to start would be to look at the AQL (acceptable quality standard) rating.
Cross-contamination is a major issue in any lab setting as it can lead to inaccurate results, compromised experiments and even safety risks. Cross-contamination can occur when samples, equipment, or instrumentation are not properly sterilised between uses, and it can be a challenge to prevent it in a busy lab environment. This blog will cover some tips to help avoid cross-contamination of chem...
Laboratory glassware is often repeatedly used in the laboratory which can lead to stress and general wear and tear. Inspecting laboratory glassware for any signs of damage can prevent injury. This blog will cover some indications that could suggest that the glassware has been damaged, how to carry out an inspection and how to dispose of damaged lab glassware safely.

What is SDI?
Silt Density Index (SDI) is a measure to assess the fouling in water purification systems from Suspended solids and colloidal materials. When it comes to reverse osmosis membranes, suspended solids within the water can cause problems. Then these levels get high, it can cause fouling of the membrane. This will lead to:
Increased cost for maintenance
Reduced lifetime

Gastec smoke tubes are used in the field or workplace to visualise airflow behaviour within air ducts, and to detect leaks within fume hoods. The tubes can generate white smoke to provide a visual of the leaks/air flow. The slightest air movements can be seen by eye so that the origin, course and speed can be tracked.

There are many things that can influence the weighing accuracy of a balance. One aspect that can be overlooked are environmental influences. These typically include: temperature, humidity, air-flow, electrostatic charges and vibrations. Here we will outline how these factors may influence readings and possible solutions to overcome these.
Temperature
Fluctuating temperatures can influenc...
