“Water water everywhere, but nor a drop to drink” – well now there is…..
“Water, water everywhere but nor a drop to drink”……. This old lament by Samuel Taylor Coleridge has been quoted for centuries and is so true of the situation faced by many people around the world.
Water is plentiful in many areas, but can be contaminated by bacteria, parasites, viruses, and the same water source can be shared by humans and animals alike.
There is a new solution that can be used wherever there is a source of water that won’t cost the earth….literally… no need to carry water for miles and no plastic bottles to dispose of.
Lifesaver systems in Colchester, Essex have pioneered the use of nano technology to develop a water bottle that can be filled from any river, pond or stream.
The bottle contains ultra filtration membranes and an optional activated carbon filter, built into a water bottle.
The bottles base unscrews to allow dirty water to be collected, the base refitted and the hand pump used to push the water through the filter.
Once the water has been through the cleaning process, it is ready to drink from the bottle. Simple and totally effective at removing all solid contaminants from the water, what emerges is sterile clean drinking water.
The optional activated carbon filter will remove a broad spectrum of chemical residues, and heavy metals such as lead and copper.
The filtering is instant, and there is no need to clean the filter after each refill. When the filter eventually becomes clogged, the pump will become harder to operate, and the cartridge can be changed, but the average cartridge could last for years.
So if you are thinking of going travelling, heading off to Asia and the continent, think about how you will make sure you don’t subject yourself to pests and diseases. Along with the malaria tablets, and the
sun cream, take a Lifesaver water bottle and stay safe….
For larger consumption Lifesaver Systems have developed a Jerrycan which can process up to 20,000 litres of water without the need to change any of the filter membranes.
With the addition of a shower attachment the Jerrycan can be placed on a high surface in the sun for showering under warmed pure clean water.
